Pastor John Patrick Gross was born in Riverside Ca. in 1955, and was married to Pamela Stromberg in 1981. Both were confirmed together at Christ Lutheran Church in La Mesa Ca. in 1969. They have 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren.
Pastor Gross earned an A.S degree in 1978 from Grossmont Jr. College in criminal justice, completed his B.A. degree at Concordia University Irvine Ca. (Christ College) in 1983, and in 1988 received his Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
His first Call was to Ascension Lutheran Church in Torrance, CA as assistant pastor; then in 1991 he was called as senior Pastor to the same parish. In 1999 he accepted a Call to St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Roseville CA (now St. Matthew in Rocklin, CA). In 2005 he accepted a Call to Mammoth Lakes Lutheran Church, and in 2010 was called to serve Zion Lutheran Church in San Luis Obispo, both also in California.
Gregory is Director of Music Ministries at Zion Lutheran Church, which includes serving as organist, pianist, choir director, and choir accompanist. He holds a B.A. in Music from Principia College, where he studied organ with John Near and piano with Marie Juriet, and an M.M. in Organ Performance from Eastern Michigan University, studying under the tutelage of Scott Elsholz and Timothy Tikker. Postgraduate studies were with Dr. Gregory Hand at the University of Iowa. Gregory is a native of Plymouth, MI.
